MICHAEL P. KOLENO
1947-2020
Michael Paul "Mick" Koleno passed away suddenly early Christmas morning at the age of 73.
Michael is survived by his wife of 41 years, Elizabeth (Beavers) and children, Michael (Julia), Andrew (Nicole), Daniel (Jessica) and Mary (Weston, fiancee); beloved “Papa” to Cecelia, Nelson, Ida, Holden, Luke, Gwendolyn, Keegan, Beau, Lincoln and Gibson Koleno; loving sister Gloria (William) Nadey; and many special nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents John and Gloria Koleno and brother Martin.
Michael graduated from Chicago Vocational High School and Chicago State University with a degree in Drafting. He honorably served his country in the United States Army as a Military Policeman. After leaving the military, Michael went on to work as a draftsman at Western Electric in Lisle. He’d later go on to work as a project engineer for Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies giving him over 33 years with the company. Michael ended his career working for Will County and retired in 2017.
After moving to Lockport, Michael and Betty welcomed four wonderful children to their family. His children remember him as a wonderful father who taught them about the power of education, the importance of faith, and the disappointment that tends to follow anyone who was as big of a Cubs fan as he was.
He was a dedicated parishioner, usher, and avid volunteer of St. Dennis Parish/School (Lockport). He also previously served as a volunteer at the local Fish Pantry. He loved both United States and Chicago history and was passionate about sharing his own history from his experiences growing up in the Burnside neighborhood in Chicago during the 1950’s and 1960’s.
A private funeral is planned, but friends and extended family are encouraged to celebrate Michael’s life by sharing in his memories at http://www.rememberingmpk.com. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted at The Northern Illinois Food Bank
